Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) — Philadelphia, King of Prussia, Bryn Mawr

As one of the most prominent features on the face, your nose can be a source of self-consciousness. The shape and size of a person's nose, if not in harmony with the other features, can make the face appear off-balance and draw unwanted attention. Fortunately, we offer rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, at our Philadelphia practice, which also serves Bryn Mawr and King of Prussia patients. Nose surgery alters the tip, bridge, and nostrils, producing a more desirable shape and bringing harmonious balance back to the face. The experienced plastic surgeons at Broker, Cramer & Swanson; Ear, Nose & Throat use the latest rhinoplasty techniques and technology to provide patients with the most natural results possible.

Before Rhinoplasty Surgery

Before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery at our Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr-area practice, the patient must schedule an initial consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. During the initial evaluation, our surgeon will determine whether the patient is a qualified nose surgery candidate. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are over age 15 and have noses that are too large, too wide, crooked, or broken. Individuals who have breathing problems because of the shape and size of their noses also make good candidates for nose surgery. After candidacy has been established, our surgeon will make sure that the patient has realistic expectations regarding the results of the rhinoplasty procedure. Patients who maintain realistic expectations are more satisfied with their surgical results. Next, our surgeon will evaluate the patient's plastic surgery needs in order to select the most appropriate nose surgery procedure. The patient will also be able to discuss any questions or concerns he or she may have with the surgeon.

Once the rhinoplasty procedure has been scheduled, our surgeon will give the patient special instructions to follow before surgery.

Patients will be asked to gather supplies for use during recovery time, including cold compresses, gauze bandages, and foods that can be digested easily. The night before the scheduled procedure, patients should wash their faces thoroughly with an antibacterial soap to minimize the risk of infection. Patients are also advised to get plenty of rest and to avoid consuming any food or beverages after midnight to prevent nausea after the nose surgery has been completed. Patients should refrain from wearing any cosmetic products on their faces or in their hair the day of nose surgery. Patients should also arrange transportation for after rhinoplasty because they will not be able to drive. Adhering to these and all other directions given by the surgeon will help ensure that patients experience the safest and most successful nose surgery procedure at our practice serving King of Prussia, Philadelphia, and other local areas.

Nose Surgery Procedure

There are two rhinoplasty techniques that our surgeons use to provide patients with successful outcomes. Open rhinoplasty, in which an incision is created across the columella, gives our surgeons the most access to the cartilage and bone underneath the skin. Closed rhinoplasty involves creating incisions from within the nostrils to minimize scarring; however, this technique allows surgeons the less direct access during the procedure.

Our surgeons will choose between open or closed rhinoplasty based on the needs and goals of the patient. During the nose surgery procedure, the surgeon will remove or reshape underlying cartilage in accordance with the patient’s desires. Once the nose has been redesigned, the incisions will be sutured shut and a splint will be put over the nose. The surgeon will then pack the nostrils with gauze to keep the septum in the correct place during the healing process. The result is an aesthetically pleasing new nose to complement the rest of the features on the face.

Rhinoplasty Benefits

Rhinoplasty is a popular way to improve the shape, size, and symmetry of the nose and bring balance back to the face. It is also an effective way to correct an injured or misshapen nose that makes it difficult to breathe normally. Our surgeons use the latest nose surgery techniques to create noses that look and feel natural while still functioning normally. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) at our Philadelphia practice near Bryn Mawr and King of Prussia can be combined with other cosmetic solutions that we offer, such as face lift surgery, eyelid surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and more, for the ultimate makeover. We also offer a variety of allergy treatments and sinus treatments, as well as other ear, nose, and throat procedures, to help patients not only look their best, but feel their best as well.
