BOTOX® Cosmetic
When performed by a qualified doctor in a medical setting, BOTOX® treatments can help to smooth frown lines, rejuvenating a person's appearance. The key to BOTOX® Cosmetic's effectiveness is a protein complex known as botulinum toxin type A. Produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, botulinum toxin type A interferes with muscle contraction.
First used to treat eye muscle disorders and neurological disorders, botulinum toxin type A was eventually approved for cosmetic use by the FDA to treat frown lines. "Dynamic lines," lines that are created by the movement of facial muscles, are smoothed as the underlying muscles are treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic. It is important that the doctor who administers the BOTOX® treatment have a superior knowledge of the facial anatomy.
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure
During BOTOX® treatment at our Philadelphia office near King of Prussia and Pottstown, one of our highly trained doctors will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the forehead muscles using a very fine needle. The stinging that may accompany the injection is minimal and subsides quickly. Within three to five days, patients will begin to see the effects of their BOTOX® treatment. Because the muscles that are treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic will eventually recover their strength, regular treatments every three to four months may be desired to maintain results.
JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel
A long-lasting dermal filler, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is FDA-approved to safely and effectively correct facial lines and wrinkles. Nasolabial folds – more commonly known as smile lines – and wrinkles between the eyebrows can be successfully treated with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel. Other applications for JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel include adding definition to the cheeks and/or chin.
The key ingredient in JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is hyaluronic acid, a natural component of the body that helps keep the skin hydrated. Treatment with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is designed to replenish the body's natural supply of hyaluronic acid, plumping the skin and smoothing lines. The hyaluronic acid used in JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is derived from non-animal sources, unlike collagen, so no allergy testing is needed prior to treatment. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is appropriate for all skin types and colors.
JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel Procedure
After choosing to undergo treatment with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel at our practice, serving Philadelphia, King of Prussia, and Pottstown, patients can expect a quick and easy procedure with results that are often immediately noticeable. Using a very fine needle, one of our skilled doctors will inject JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel into the skin to diminish the prominence of lines and/or to reshape the contours of the face. Although some swelling or redness may occur, the procedure involves little to no downtime. While not permanent, results can last from six to twelve months.
